Classical Virtuoso Performs for Charity - winner of Gibraltar Music Festival.
Stephen Greenwood is an internationally recognised professional Spanish Classical Guitarist who donates 100% of his performance fees and CD sales to charitable causes.
Specialising in Romantic classics of the 19th and 20th century from composers such as Francisco Tarrega, Isaac Albeniz, Enrique Granados and Rodrigo, he is known for captivating an audience with his uniquely sensitive yet passionate style.
Winner of the Harrogate International Music Festival on two occasions, first place in the Barclays Bank Music Festival, first place in the Gibraltar Music Festival 2008 and winner of the British Airways Classical Music trophy.
Andrew Hansford, a judge from the renowned Royal School of Music, said “Stephen was recommended for first place in the Gibraltar Festival and for the British Airways Award due to his overall contribution to the festival combined with his strong command of the classical guitar instrument and his strong atmospheric appreciation of the idiom of Spanish classical music.”
Stephen’s mission has always been to use his gift as a Spanish Classical Guitar player to help the underprivileged. In the past he has raised significant amounts for The Victoria & David Beckham’s Children’s Charity and charities for blind children. He has raised money for the Casa Abril children’s orphanage in San Roque, the local zoo, a dogs home and donated performance monies to up-and-coming music students who need instruments and lessons but cannot afford them.
Every penny of the performance money he raises goes to charity. He does not take any money from the fee and he pays for his own transport, he covers all costs for performance strings, accessories and always approaches each performance as a true professional.
In 2007 alone, he raised 5,000 pounds for charities in the UK. He is determined to continue with his professional career and charity fund raising efforts for The Arts Trust.
